Letters and Lights – Smile Bright
There are very few songs that can make me instantly happy, but this one does! In fact, for the past week I have woken up and played this song just to start off my day.
Seattle Music – near and dear to my heart.
Actually, I met the lead singer Erik Knudsen a couple years back at a show through a mutual friend. We used to go to all the same shows, but back then in the “scene lyfe” he was known as Erik-who-straightens-his-hair haha I am so impressed with his music today and am excited to see what great things will come out of their band.
I think right now, they’re in California doing some other things with The Scene Aesthetic, which is also great to hear. They were part of that Santa Monica show on the pier/beach thing.
I actually recently contacted Erik too to see if he was interested in an interview for this blog so hopefully we can get that to work out!
Come listen to this song and the rest of their music at their MySpace.

Yesterday, Sasha and I went out to Bellevue to grab dinner. Brainstorming places in the car, we had settled on Asian food and we both remembered a place that we used to go to often and loved, but hadn’t been to in awhile. Sushi Yama. Little did we know that this would be the dinner of all that is absolute fail.
So let’s do a play-by-play.
- My first plate is Salmon. It’s hard to mess that up. My first bite is warm and the rice is crispy? Dude, I know it’s a hot day, but seriously…
- Sasha orders a futomaki roll. It’s vegetarian. When we get it, she suspects that there is eel in it so she asks me to check and I cut off a little piece and sure enough it was eel. After notifying one of the chefs he proceeds to put it right back on the conveyor belt! We were shocked.
Strike one
- Sasha also ordered another roll previously and I had ordered a seared salmon and another roll. (status: It never came) We kept continuously making eye contact with them but they were too busy making a series of other things… there were FIVE other people eating in the restaurant. That includes us. And that should’ve been a tip to us. Second Strike.
- With about 2-3 plates each, we are just over it. We ask for our check and tell the girl at the front who is somewhat of a hostess our concerns. We’ve seen her plenty of times before and she’s nice so we try to be easy. However the woman who manages the restaurant, hears us and says, “that they had our orders ready and were calling them out, but neither my friend nor I heard anything and no one told us.” The woman told Sasha that she shouldn’t order something if she wasn’t going to eat it. Very snappily.
To conclude. Sushi Yama, you disappoint me. I adored your restaurant, but somehow you went downhill. Was it the recession? Bad day? I don’t know… but we will never come back to you again. :(

Cornish College of the Arts has decided to remodel the former neighboring Days Inn into a residence hall after 95 years of being a school. This fall, 280 first-year students will move in to their “dorm” on August 30th. They have been undergoing this transformation since the beginning of summer.

Seeing Lizzie perform last night was amazing. She has such an incredible voice, it’s just always nice to hear and see her as well! It had been what feels like almost a year since I last saw her. We actually left the venue and took the show outside to the park for a more intimately summer setting.
Her show was at the Ground Zero Teen Center, the same place I attended my very first show when I was fifteen. The place has changed SO much. It just looked like a great place with all the young teenagers running around there. It brought back some great memories especially seeing the framed pictures on the wall of fliers of sold out shows back in the day.
For some reason, being at a show, seeing old friends… it always feels the most comfortable, like my home away from home.
So! I’m going to get to news.
- Lizzie will be releasing her album soon. More details will be released later on when I find out.
- Tom Pfaeffle’s memorial concert will be on August 13th at the Moore Theater. The time and performances have not been released, but I do know that Kay Kay and His Weathered Underground will be performing I believe.
- My dear friend Matt Bekker will be performing tomorrow at the Edgewater Hotel. I went to see him last week and posted, so if you are interested in what you have seen go check him out.
Check out the event here
- Andrew and Eric from the band The Scene Aesthetic are recording in California right now and every so often they will have uStream shows, in which they answer questions from fans or give you a glimpse of their recording sessions. You can find more information about those from their Twitter so become a follower!

And just for kicks – my old memories at Ground Zero :)

My favorite part is when some of the people underestimate where the mattress before them will land and then it hits them in a sensitive spot. it’s lulzworthy.
Anyways, a group of employees from Bensons for Beds in England decided to test out mattress dominos to set a world wide record. They will most likely get it because I’m sure that wasn’t even in the book in the first place.

The Pussycat Dolls are OVER!
Like we didn’t see this coming? Nicole has been running that shit for a long long time but her band and kind of the rest of the world are over it now as well.
The band has broken up.
and so are
Michael Cera and Charlyne Yi!
Michael Cera you. are. mine.
Kind of awkward that their movie about falling in love is coming out soon…

Find yourself questioning religion? Not sure which path to take? Scared to death by Tom Cruise?
Then SHIANTOLOGY may be for you.
A new religion founded on Sunday, February 8, 2009 and characterized by a belief in the power of Shia’s spirit to clear itself of past painful experiences (in particular, hand smashing car crashes and drunken outbursts in Walgreens) through self-knowledge, spiritual fulfillment and copious amounts of Arizona Ice Tea.
Shiantology places an emphasis upon Shia’s immortal spirit, Shiacarnation, an extrascientific method of pshiachotherapy (Shianetics), and, MOST IMPORTANTLY, daily SHIA WALKING POSTS.
…I don’t make this shit up.

My first Apple computer arrived at my house when I was about 5 or 6. At some we decided to upgrade completely to PC’s and it was probably the best decision we’ve ever made.
Mac’s might be trendy, slim, lightweight etc, but they cannot live up to the performance that I need in a computer. Besides the iPod, that is the only product I will buy from them and even THAT freezes up sometimes.
The other day, my friend Chuck posted as his Facebook status that his $3000 Mac laptop broke after one year when he really needed it the most to edit his videos more extensively. This caused kind of a flurry over his status of people who loathe or love Macs.
The truth is, Macs are not perfect and Dino Dai Zovi was out to prove it! The author of “The Mac Hacker’s Handbook,” has said that, “there’s a an Apple security flaw in OS X that can give a malicious coder complete control of a Mac.”
At the core of the hack is a short code script that gives a hacker access to a Mac’s memory. Making it possible to gain root access to the machine, and subsequently a remote TCP connection is setup. Allow said hacker to gain access to your personal data, attack the machine, execute files, or quietly monitor Safari to sniff your attempts to access your financial and banking details online.
Just say no.

I’m always amazed by the kind of designs that Nike puts out. Over the years I’ve developed an attraction to their various styles of print, color and texture. This reminds me that I need to buy new Nikes…
These are cool! But not for me. These were designed by Daniel Reese and are $220 a pop! (k no thnx I don’t pay that much for my sneakers haha) Cool to look at but not cool enough to rock on my feet.
