Seattle’s Fun Forest is getting chopped!

Seattle’s Fun Forest in the heart of Seattle Center, is dear and near to the hearts of many locals. When the park opened in 1967, children were in love with it. Those children have grown up and even started bringing their own kids to experience the Fun Forest.

As time went on, Seattle Center expanded and less attention was put on the mini-carnival. I think it’s tough for Seattle to have an amusement park like this year round because three out of the four seasons are somewhat cold and rainy. While I understand that the park has been with Seattle for a very long time, I understand why they are discontinuing it.

The difficult recession and new visions for the Seattle Center are the two main reasons why the Fun Forest is getting cut down. The rides are being sold, broken down, and shipped to become rides at other amusement parks.

The south part of Fun Forest, including the pavilion with the bumper cars and kiddieland, will remain open through Labor Day 2010.

Has anyone seen the movie Adventureland? After watching that movie, I could never look at the Fun Forest the same way.

Meet the Bundler

In 1975, the Bundler was all the craze. Is it possible that the Snuggie may have spawned from this? Granted, the Snuggie has a much catchier name, but where the Snuggie fails, the Bundler has picked up the pieces. With the Bundler, you can adjust at your legs and waste with that AWESOME rope [!!] to be a little bit more form fitting whereas with the Snuggie …well it certainly isn’t a flattering piece in any way, shape, or form.

And no one wants to look unflattering…

Someone Once Told Me…

I am in awe when I come across these types of projects online. They embody everything that is real in this world. Everything that is true and genuine and there’s just not any bullshitting. I hope someday I can formulate a yearly project much like this one and like others that I have seen.

Someone Once Told Me… is a photography project that is full of life lessons, tales, and advice that we have heard before or haven’t! It is updated daily by Mario Cacciottolo who wanders the streets of London to capture these photographs that make up this amazing website.

La Blogotheque

La Blogotheque is a Paris-based music blog that records videos of well-known bands having impromptu, completely spontaneous, concerts around Paris.

Can you imagine if you were one of those lucky people able to catch this kind of a set? I think I would pee my pants a little being only 3 feet away seeing one of my favorite bands. I think what La Blogotheque does is great! It can be tough sometimes when a band you would really like to see is so huge, they only play at arenas and music festivals. There is something so attractive to me about intimate shows like this and it actually says a lot about the band and musicians themselves too.

Here is Phoenix performing one of my favorite songs “1901” in front of the Eiffel Tower.  It’s amazing.

How Does One Become A Hipster?

You might find yourself asking that question quite often if you attend Seattle University or live in Seattle. In no way is it a bad thing at all to even be called a hipster or to be associated with “hipsters.” The idea of it is something that interests me only because I find that the group has evolved so much over the years. Seriously the hipsters today look a lot different than the hipsters in say… 2004.

My brother often likes to make the joke that I am a hipster myself. Agree to disagree, I have no idea if I would put myself in that category. He sent me this link today from Paste Magazine with the article “Evolution of the Hipster 2000-2009.”

Sidecar Action

The other day after leaving class, my dear friend Travis was telling me how he wanted to purchase a motorcycle. I told him that if he bought a motorcycle that he would have to purchase one with a sidecar so I would be right there next to him!

Today, I found the solution to our problem:

ULTIMATE WIN WIN.

Capitol Hill Gets A New Logo

Bellevue ad firm, Kite, has created Capitol Hill’s new logo for the Capitol Hill Chamber of Commerce.

The brand strategy and visual design convey key themes that came up in the research and are part of the overall brand including: inclusivity, energy, diversity and dynamism. The idea behind the design is to visually represent the spirit of the socially inclusive and multi-faceted community by creating a solid background with the name “Capitol Hill” repeated many times.

The Stranger decided to poll their readers:

Does this new logo make you feel

  • Included
  • Energetic
  • Diverse
  • Dynamic
  • Other

I’m going to have to go with the “other” option. My feelings towards this logo have absolutely nothing to do with their intended goal. I have a question. Why do the green letters spelling “Capitol Hill” in the background look so sloppy? This looks like something someone designed in wannabe old skool Kid-Pix. And why is Capitol Hill so green? The neighborhood  is covered in rainbows!

Try again?

This is what Broadway and East Jefferson currently looks like: Not so great right?

According to The Stranger, the city of Seattle will meet on December 2nd to discuss their new recommendation for what they WANT this street to look like.

Are you ready for this?

I don’t think you’re ready for this…

I Go To School

Here!

On the night of my Fall Ball event, Seattle University hosted the “For the Difference We Make” Gala. I just came across this video today and I know this post is well overdue, but check out this video. It’s amazing. I remember Annemarie had asked me if I wanted to be in it, but my schedule always interfered with the filming schedule. It’s still cool to recognize familliar faces within it though. If this video doesn’t make a high school senior want to come here, then I don’t know what would. It truly defines Seattle University and reminds me of why I go here in the first place. And I don’t mean to say that in a cliche way or as a way to plug my own school. If anything, I’m more attracted to how this video was designed!

Earlier tonight, I was talking with my friend Tina about how much Seattle University has changed over the years. We’re now remodeling our library, we are building a new residence hall for upperclassmen by my senior year, remodeling our gym. We have a new admissions and alumni building and are creating a building for the law school. We are now in Division I in athletics. It’s no secret that our school is expanding further into the city. I’m excited to see where Seattle University will be in the next couple of years.

PS Gladys Knight performed at our GALA! If I didn’t have Fall Ball, I would’ve have totally gone to see her.

Would you Wear it?

The Snuggie has competition. Now you can stay permanently comfy and warm with the “Selk-Bag.” But seriously, would you be caught out on public wearing this getup? Do you ever think that you’ll be THIS cold that you will need to be wearing a permanent sleeping bag? Really.

“It’s padded and shaped to the human form and allows free movement both in and out of sleep, where traditional sleeping bags don’t.”

The suit features a number of ties and belts all the more to keep in the heat.

Question: How big of an inconvenience will this be when you have to use the restroom?

Win: You’ll never have to worry about where you’re going to sleep…kind of.

The Uniform Project Trailer

Sheena Matheiken is halfway through “The Uniform Project.” Back in June, I made a post about her project that challenged her to wear the same “little black dress” for 365 days. Not only is she doing this for herself to prove that she can, but she’s raising money! For little kids!

Today, I found the official trailer for “The Uniform Project” that she had created telling the world what exactly she was doing. It’s a very cute video and is truly inspiring. This is probably one of my favorite projects I’ve ever seen being done. Post Secret made that list too. ;)

Zoe Kravitz is fresh faced – Chanel becomes an Angel

Vera Wang recently handpicked Zoe Kravitz to become the new face of the popular Vera Wang Princess replacing Camilla Belle. As much as  I love Camilla Belle, there’s no denying that this ad isn’t fantastic.
