Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen are two of my favorite style icons. They have practically been my fashion influences since Full House. Aside from watching them grow up in their television shows and their series of weirdly romantic comedies like Passport to Paris, I have witnessed their growth in the debut of their two lines The Row and Elizabeth and James.
Both are beautiful collections, but way outside of my range. When I heard that Mary-Kate and Ashley were releasing their new line Olsenboye at JC Penny, I got a little bit excited. In fact, it was the same kind of excitement I felt when I heard Charlotte Ronson was collaborating with JC Penny as well. The news release of Olsenboye was huge in New York. There was a video teaser of young girls wearing the collection, a cupcake truck advertising the brand and selling merchandise all over the city and BALLOONS! Olsenboye was looking promising. Finally, women everywhere will be able to dress like the classy Olsen twins.
The Lookbook:

1) This isn’t how Mary-Kate and Ashley dress typically. I understand that it is a juniors line, but many of these trends happen to be outdated. The Gossip Girl wannabe blazers are okay, but why the badge? Why not keep it simple like Ashley Olsen’s usual look? Is it necessary for the plaid skirt to be high-waisted and fuller at the bottom? Don’t even get me started on that graphic tee above with slime colored writing.
2) I just went onto the JC Penny website, out of curiousity, to see if there would be more pieces featured. None of the items featured in the look book even appear on the website. Not sure if that’s a good thing or a bad thing at this point. In addition to this, all of the prices for the items on the website have been slashed in half!
Looks like the line didn’t do so well after all…

This entire look is really nice. I’d almost want to challenge it by throwing on brown boots instead of the black. This is something I see Natalie Portman wearing.

In 1975, the Bundler was all the craze. Is it possible that the Snuggie may have spawned from this? Granted, the Snuggie has a much catchier name, but where the Snuggie fails, the Bundler has picked up the pieces. With the Bundler, you can adjust at your legs and waste with that AWESOME rope [!!] to be a little bit more form fitting whereas with the Snuggie …well it certainly isn’t a flattering piece in any way, shape, or form.
And no one wants to look unflattering…

Women can get away with anything (even murder probably?) if they are wearing a “Little Black Dress.” They will never be too dressed down or too dressed up. It is a classic staple that every woman knows should be in their closet.
Off the top of my head, I know that I have at least five. One for the day, night, for a formal event, a long sleeve, and a more conservative style.
So I’ve been wondering… what outfit for a guy is appropriate at most occasions?
A suit! However, we all know that a suit doesn’t come cheap. Don’t forget you need to have the four main components of one (pants, shirt, jacket, tie) whereas a woman can wear a black dress and heels. It just doesn’t seem fair…
Jack, J. Crew’s in-house stylist, explains when this look is necessary: “It’s appropriate for any event that calls for a jacket, and when in doubt, I like to err on the side of caution. You might be a bit more dressed up than the other guys, but that’s no big deal. I’d suggest a charcoal suit (it’s the most classic), paired with a tartan or white dress shirt, a dark tie, and your best pair of wing tips.”
To dress down, the trusted Jack says he can skip the tie and wear it with jeans. “Just make sure the jeans are a slimmer cut in a dark wash,” he suggests.

Yesterday, I took a personal day at the mall to do a little retail therapy and to reward myself for finishing out this fall quarter.
I wasn’t sure if there were going to be any holiday parties while I was at home, but I wanted to be ready. I wanted to be sure that I could find a beautiful dress that would make me stand out and in all honesty, I’d rather spend money on a holiday dress than an “ugly Christmas sweater.”
Since I know we’re all looking this season, I decided to round up a few options from some of my favorite places to shop and browse at:

Stretch Velvet Double U-Neck Long Sleeve Mini Dress - American Apparel
Black – $42
Nothing feels more like holiday spirit than velvet!
Longest Night Dress – Anthropologie

Iwould like to purchase a pair of black Lululemon sweat pants for a Christmas gift.
The pants usually run anywhere from $80-$130. I’ve heard some arguments saying that this price is justified because they really are such quality sweat pants. Can any readers confirm this? The price makes me a little nervous because I’m sure I can find quality sweats at The Gap also.
