Yow Yow!

Apparently, there are showers in the auditorium. I was about to jump in when I realized I was without flip flops.

Lesson #1: Never take a shower in a public restroom without flip flops. There were pink wannabe flip flops in the corner, for a second, I thought maybe. These might not have been flip flops.  How long have they actually been there? They looked like the plastic that held a 6-pack of pop cans together.

I decided to walk quickly to my room leaving everything behind in the shower stall. Teddy Geiger’s song “Oh No” was playing throughout the area. It has been waiting to be released for a year and a half.

I stop halfway and wonder if I should run back to grab my belongings. That would’ve been the smart thing to do right?

By the time I returned back to the auditorium, somehow sans flip flops, the One Acts have started. There also happens to be a very famous classical music performer at my school visiting that day. My cousin is doing a duet to a love song with her. Is it Valentine’s Day? Meanwhile up until that performance, I decide to study econ. I don’t understand it, but what else is new?

I spend most of my time searching for my belongings that have gone missing. Everything has gone missing, but the only possessions I care about are my iPod and my wallet.

Red velvet cupcake. My favorite. I think I’ll eat this and manage to get crumbs in my eye. The reflection in the mirror shows me that I am a mess, maybe a small child if you will.

An old classmate – from junior high – who I have not spoken to since elementary, comes in and offers me a wordy piece of advice. “When I usually lose stuff, I just go to the Lost & Found.”

You’re right. In fact, I know where these items are in my house. I don’t need to be looking for them any longer.

And with that, I made the decision to wake up.

Who came to decipher?

…with my Taco Time.

Disgusting…yet powerful. And this is why we are so strongly affected by advertisements.

Here’s my question to you:

Do you still drink soda/pop/cola?

Today was the first time I have had pop in probably months! My family no longer buys it and I typically stick to water and milk (I’m still growing?) at school. When I was a kid, however, orange soda and squirt were my beverages of choice!

I Love New York Deli coming to Capitol Hill!

Capitol Hill is on the verge of a major breakthrough. First Po Dog, Seattle University’s numerous remodelings, renovations of old buildings, Elliott Bay Book Company’s moving, and now we can add I Love New York Deli to the list.

The new I Love New York Deli location will be right off Broadway between Pike and Pine (of course.) Everyone get ready for amazing sandwiches and … get ready for this… they might be open 24 hours! Seattle University students, you now have one more late night eatery option to add to your list of “places to eat after a night out on the hill.” All this time, you’ve had the street meat, Pita Pit, Dicks, etc, but now you can sink your teeth into a nice delicous sandwich. Competition beware.

There is such an unexplainable sense of comfort when I am at home. The final paper has been written and turned in and I feel such a lift off my shoulders now that this quarter has come and gone. The last time I was home for Thanksgiving break, approximately a week and a half ago, I was not able to accomplish all of the things that I had wanted to. So let’s try that list again:

  • visiting my Grandma Ruby and purchasing her pretty jewelry for Christmas!
  • developing a certain roll of film from two summers ago
  • applying to large list of internships for Summer 2010
  • starting and finishing a book
  • an absolutely necessary visit to Pizza Bank
  • eating
  • snagging music
  • writing up interviews for the Yow Yow!

and overall enjoy my break away from school :) Expect lots of posts this week, I’ve got a list that has been building up from finals week.

Out on the Town: 12/8

Yay!! I’m actually really excited about this. After I get picked up tomorrow, Kevin and I will be grabbing dinner at Capitol Hill’s newest restaurant Po Dogs and then if it’s not too crowded, we will be stopping by this event for some swagggg.

Tom Douglas to open a new restaurant

Seattle produces good food. Can we all agree on this? I always enjoy eating out in Seattle. Though I’ve never eaten at one of Tom Douglas’s infamous restaurants, I know that he is one of the most amazing chefs in this city. He is the owner of Serious Pie, Lola, Etta’s, and the Dahlia Lounge, but he’s not stopping just yet. Tom Douglas will be opening a new restaurant located right next door to Etta’s near Pike Place Market. This will not be an extension off of Etta’s, it will b e a new restaurant completely.

I’ve never worked in the food industry. I think hosting might stress me out. I don’t have enough strength to wait tables. It’s not the job for me. The New York Times recently published a very helpful article entitled “100 Things Restaurant Staffers Should Never Do.”

Here are some important ones that I’ve weeded out myself:

17. Do not take an empty plate from one guest while others are still eating the same course. Wait, wait, wait.

51. If there is a service charge, alert your guests when you present the bill. It’s not a secret or a trick.

56. Do not ignore a table because it is not your table. Stop, look, listen, lend a hand. (Whether tips are pooled or not.)

77. Do not disappear.

88. Do not ask if a guest needs change. Just bring the change.

Forks becomes Twilight Town

Next year, new restraurant, Volterra, will open  in Forks, WA. (Really?)

Owners Annette and Tim Root told The Peninsula Daily News it will be a family restaurant, and they have applied for a liquor license.

The city of Forks already has a venue called the Twilight Lounge in which they host concerts and other events for fans in the city.

The Chamber of Commerce says thousands of visitors come asking questions, such as whether it’s safe to go camping with the vampire problems in the area.

AND I’m over this post already.

A Collection Part 8

Pictures kind of speak to me, do they speak to you too? These are probably my favorite posts. I feel like every collection serves a different purpose and defines exactly what I’m feeling at that moment. Can anyone guess the theme of this one? I’ve been working on this post on and off all day and I think I’ve finally come to the realization that I love these pictures not just because of the way they make me feel inspired, but because these are things that don’t happen in life sometimes. Either that or no one catches it. I kind of want to do a photo series in which I can document THESE things.

Bento for Kidlet

My grandparents used to  make me lunch and every single day. I would ask for a can of soup for lunch rotating between chicken noodle soup, chicken and stars, mega noodle, tomato, and vegetable beef. When I graduated to junior high my dad would stick a granola bar and a turkey and mayo sandwich into a brown bag.

At that point, I decided I wanted a meal plan.  Then today, I saw something that I’ve never seen before which made me think  that maybe I was a little deprived as a child.

Jenn is a 26-year old mother who blogs and takes pictures of the lunches that she makes for her son every day for school. These aren’t normal brown paper bag lunches, they’re bento boxes and they’re actually really cool.

^^ Yeah, I don’t know about that one

50 best foods in the WORLD and how to om nom

50. Best place to eat: Ramen
Ramen Jiro, Tokyo

“People in Japan always say ramen (Japanese noodle soup) can’t be this and can’t be that. Ramen Jiro is very non-traditional, in your face, take it or leave it. You either love it or hate it, but people who like it are good people. It’s got pork, it’s got cabbage, it’s got garlic, and the sauce is sweet. It’s gnarly. There are several branches; my favourite is the one near Keio University.”

I dare someone to try all of these!

Seattle Bound Our <3's

I’m the happiest girl in the world when my best friends come to see me in Seattle :) I’m not even that far away from home, but when your friends come to see you it’s a piece of home brought to you and it’s the best feeling in the world. I’m so glad that Jeanette and Jeff were able to come and have dinner w/ me. Jeff also had two of his friends Collin and Matt with him from the University of Oregon so we went on a little expedition around Seattle and stopped by one of our favorite places: Kerry View Point on Queen Anne. If you’re ever visiting, come here during the day or night. You’ll be able to see all of Seattle.
