The Destiny Worldwide Christmas Party was a great event! After Gelesia and I got ourselves lost for a good thirty minutes, we finally arrived at their office in Kirkland. I think what surprised me the most was how many people were actually there. Everyone found a spot on the ground or in the back to watch Letters and Lights perform first. Then my friend Andrew, who doesn’t often perform by himself, had a nice lengthy set taking requests for songs. It was so nice to see him again especially since I only get to see him a few times a year!

Come to the Destiny Worldwide office in Kirkland tomorrow for their Christmas party! Andrew de Torres, singer in two of Seattle’s prominent bands to the music scene, Danger Radio and The Scene Aesthetic may give us a special treat with music he has been working on for his solo project. Who knows?!
Also Letter & Lights, who are also from the Seattle area, will be performing as well!
Plus, how can you pass up marked-down merch? You can’t!
Come say hi! Gelesia, Mallory, Marina and I will be there :)

Schoolyard Heroes and Kane Hodder will lay to rest in their graves tonight after they perform for their last show EVER. Both bands have had quite the following over the years and will be missed amongst the hardcore crowd. I once witnessed a Schoolyard Heroes performance at Bumbershoot in 2007 and by the end of the set my face was melted off.
If you’re looking for a riot or a place to get down, this is your calling tonight. They may just make you feel like you have never been to a concert worthy of even being called a concert until you have seen them. You can bet that they will go all out.
Show takes place at El Corazon tonight. 8 PM. $15. All ages. Other acts include: Sirens Sister, These Arms Are Snakes, and Blood Cells.

Today, I discovered a very interesting video circulating on YouTube. 500 students from Shorewood High School had come together to create this music video to Hall and Oats’ “You Make My Dreams Come True,” after they were challenged by their rival Shorecrest High School. The whole video was filmed backwards! It’s amazing and totally worth the watch. It’s also very exciting to see a high schools local to us receiving this kind of positive attention. The second video is from Shorecrest. Which do you think is better?
Earlier this year, my old high school had been vandalized by our rival school. This rivalry has been going on long before I even attended the school so in a way I wasn’t all that surprised. However, I was disappointed to hear that there was graffiti written all over the walls, a fire starting, and a classroom window broken. All in one night.
Is this really what school rivalry is all about? Do we have to damage things to make a statement about who’s school is better? This incident will not be the last. The younger generation will hear about it and will always try to upstage them. At what point do we realize it’s time to grow up? You’re hating a school for what? Because you’re supposed to. Because the older kids did and you have to too.
Thank you Shorewood and Shorecrest for participating in a school rivalry that shows spirit, fun, class, and maturity.

Apparently, there are showers in the auditorium. I was about to jump in when I realized I was without flip flops.
Lesson #1: Never take a shower in a public restroom without flip flops. There were pink wannabe flip flops in the corner, for a second, I thought maybe. These might not have been flip flops. How long have they actually been there? They looked like the plastic that held a 6-pack of pop cans together.
I decided to walk quickly to my room leaving everything behind in the shower stall. Teddy Geiger’s song “Oh No” was playing throughout the area. It has been waiting to be released for a year and a half.
I stop halfway and wonder if I should run back to grab my belongings. That would’ve been the smart thing to do right?
By the time I returned back to the auditorium, somehow sans flip flops, the One Acts have started. There also happens to be a very famous classical music performer at my school visiting that day. My cousin is doing a duet to a love song with her. Is it Valentine’s Day? Meanwhile up until that performance, I decide to study econ. I don’t understand it, but what else is new?
I spend most of my time searching for my belongings that have gone missing. Everything has gone missing, but the only possessions I care about are my iPod and my wallet.
Red velvet cupcake. My favorite. I think I’ll eat this and manage to get crumbs in my eye. The reflection in the mirror shows me that I am a mess, maybe a small child if you will.
An old classmate – from junior high – who I have not spoken to since elementary, comes in and offers me a wordy piece of advice. “When I usually lose stuff, I just go to the Lost & Found.”
You’re right. In fact, I know where these items are in my house. I don’t need to be looking for them any longer.
And with that, I made the decision to wake up.
Who came to decipher?

Joe Brooks – Superman (Jazz)
Prepare yourself to fall in love with 21-year-old singer Joe Brooks from the UK. He is absolutely amazing. This song has been on repeat all day because I have found myself completely mesmerized by his voice. He’s also awfully cute :) Joe toured with my friends Eric and Andrew from The Scene Aesthetic this past September in the UK so let’s hope he pays a visit to Seattle soon!

Tim & Jean – Come Around
These guys are so freakin’ cute! I’m almost sort of refusing to believe that they are just 15 and 18, because it’s…illegal, but knowing that they are makes their whole project so much more impressive. The two hail from Perth, Australia and even though they only have a couple songs out right now, this one has been blowing up all over blogs. The song is super catchy and reminds me a lot of Passion Pit and Friendly Fires.
These guys are kids. Their age puts them at that level, but their talent and drive is incredibly refreshing. It’s nice to know that people at their age can still have ambitions and can work so hard to make things happen for them. So congratulations to them on their success and a great hit song!

Acceptance – Different (Acoustic)
I think no matter what happens in my life and no matter how my music tastes change in the future, I will always have a special place in my heart for Seattle music. I am recognizing the music I listen to now… a lot of Girl Talk, BEARBOT, electronic and instrumental… but none of that can bring me back home. Only music from Seattle can. Acceptance had to be one of my favorite bands as a teen and I was upset when they broke up. Their album, Phantoms, is AMAZING. I’m crossing my fingers for a reunion.

Gregory & the Hawk – Kill the Turkey
It is becoming more and more difficult to find songs for my “Song of the Day.” I have yet to add to my music library since I’ve been home so if there’s not a song that is repeatedly playing in my head, I usually just shuffle my music library until I find a new one. In this case, I don’t even have “Kill the Turkey” on my iPod, but I did stumble upon Gregory & the Hawk. I remember the first time I listened to Meredith Godreau, I immediately fell in love with her voice. If you haven’t heard “Boats and Birds,” you must.
I used to think that I could look back on my life in pictures (or posts,) but I’ve found that I can do the same with songs. I can remember the periods in my life when I listened to different genres. I’m gonna say Gregory & the Hawk was about… 2006
